Polyacrylamide PAM is a linear, water-soluble high-molecular-weight polymer—a collective term encompassing acrylamide homopolymers, copolymers, and their modified derivatives.
Based on their structure, they are classified as anionic, cationic, or non-ionic. They are also categorized by molecular weight—ranging from 500 thousand to 33 million—into ultra-low, low, medium, high, and ultra-high molecular weight grades. It is widely used in fields such as water treatment, oilfield, mining, papermaking, and soil improvement.
Application
In water treatment, anionic and non-ionic PAMs primarily function as flocculants to facilitate solid-liquid separation, whereas cationic PAM is mainly used for sludge dewatering in municipal sewage and industrial wastewater treatment; the specific ionic charge and molecular weight are selected based on the characteristics of the sludge and wastewater.
PAM is also utilized in mineral extraction, processing, and tailings management to enhance the efficiency of solid-liquid separation and recovery rates.
